Local man arrested for using unconstitutional nets

A local man was arrested last week after fish and wildlife officers caught him using an illegal net.

FWC Officer Scott Hoffman was off duty when he noticed a vessel deploying what appeared to be an unconstitutional monofilament entangling net to harvest mullet.

The officer watched as the individual hauled in the net went to the shore and hid the net in the bushes before leaving the area.

Two other officers met the suspect vessel as it was being loaded on a trailer at a nearby ramp.

They found 213 mullet on-board the boat.

The net was located from the shore and seized as evidence.

The subject was arrested and transported to the Franklin County Jail.

He was charged with illegal use of a monofilament gill net, which is a felony, and three misdemeanor violations for illegal use of an entangling net.
