PROTECTING FLORIDIANS | TEXT VERSION | EN ESPAÑOL |
Tomorrow is the Second Annual Florida Statewide Drug Take-Back Day. Prescription drug abuse can often start in the home, and events like Drug Take-Back Day provide the community with a safe way to dispose of unnecessary prescription medications and protect loved ones. I encourage you to participate in this event on Saturday. Most events begin at 10 a.m. and end at 2 p.m. For details, visit MyFloridaLegal.com and click on the Drug Take-Back Day banner.
Also, I am pleased to report that this week the Florida Supreme Court lifted the stay of execution of Manuel Valle. Valle is on death row for the brutal murder of Louis Penain, a Coral Gables Police Officer. Justice is long overdue. In its opinion lifting the stay, the Florida Supreme Court reaffirmed that the protocols and procedures used by the state of Florida in lethal injections are constitutional.
On Wednesday, I had the opportunity to tour the State Emergency Operations Center, which is responsible for ensuring that Florida is preparing for and responding to emergencies. Florida's price-gouging law prohibits extreme increases in the price of essential commodities needed as a direct result of an officially declared emergency, and my office is charged with enforcing this statute during a state of emergency. We will be vigilant in ensuring that bad actors do not exploit Floridians in their time of need. |

Attorney General Bondi today announced that the Office of Statewide Prosecution successfully prosecuted Raul Mondragon, a.k.a. “Sleep,” of the “Brown Pride Locos” gang, which has terrorized Manatee County for years.
