The Carrabelle History Museum will open a new exhibit this weekend about the S.S. Tarpon and is looking for any memorabilia that local people might have to add to the show.
The Steamer was built in 1887 to carry passengers.
Beginning in 1903, the Tarpon began making weekly runs between the ports of Mobile, Pensacola, St. Andrews Bay, Apalachicola, and Carrabelle.
The ship sank off of Panama City in 1937 and is now an underwater preserve.
Because the ship had an impact on Carrabelle, the history museum is looking for memorabilia for it's exhibit and hope that some local people have some interesting items stashed away.
The museum already has lots of old newspaper articles-- but If you think you might have some photos or documents of the that you could lend or donate to the museum they would be grateful.
You can contact the Carrabelle History Museum at 524-1153.
And make sure to see the exhibit which opens this weekend.
The exhibit opening will be held on Saturday from 7-9 PM at the Carrabelle HIstory Museum at 106 Ave B behind the BP station in Carrabelle.
It should be an interesting event as many of the descendants of the crew who survived the ship wreck will be at the opening.
The exhibit will be up thru Thanksgiving, and open to the public on Fridays and Saturday or by appointment.
