You
Are Invited
You are invited to join us for an
exercise to discuss the Gulf
of Mexico Alliance’s
Community Resilience Index – a tool for coastal communities to assess their
resilience to natural disasters. In planning for the future, Gulf residents,
businesses, and public agencies are seeking ways for communities to better
withstand and recover from future disasters. A long term Alliance goal is to assist communities in identifying
ways to withstand and bounce back from stressors, reducing both immediate
impacts and long-term economic losses.
The Resilience Index is a community
self assessment that provides an efficient, cost effective method of
determining the
community’s capacity to reach
and maintain an acceptable level of functioning and structure after a natural
hazard event. The Resilience Index identifies issues the community should
address before the next event, and where attention and money may be directed to
serve the community best. Experienced local planners, engineers,
floodplain managers, administrators and community support organizations can use
existing knowledge, data, and studies to perform the self assessment.
A meeting to complete this
self-assessment has been scheduled for the
City of Carrabelle
on January 19, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at City Hall in
Reminder for Carrabelle Chamber Members:
If you have not renewed your membership – please stop in at
the Chamber office or mail your check to Suzanne.
