 African American History Festival This Weekend in Apalach  
The African-American History Festival, hosted by the Hillside Coalition of Laborers for Apalachicola (H'COLA), will celebrate African American History, Art, and Culture in Apalachicola this weekend. The festivities will kick off Friday evening with the Grand Opening of the Historic Holy Family Center and later, a legend's ball starring jazz headliner Hulon Crayton and the On Call Band. Saturday begins with a festival parade and day long fun. There will be live entertainment throughout the two day event.

Art Opening & Film Showing Feb. 18 at 49 Palmetto Gallery The 49 Palmetto Gallery will host an art opening and film showing this Saturday, Feb. 18. On exhibit: These Chickens: A Photographic Study by Jackie Black. Film showing: A Different Way of Doing Business, by Apalachicola filmmaker, Merrill Livingston. This is Merrill's final edit of this important documentary that profiles a rural community in northwest Florida. See it before its debut at film festivals throughout the U.S. The 49 Palmetto Gallery is located at 49 Ave G at the corner of Ave G and 4th St. in Apalachicola.

Upcoming Theatre, Concerts and Music Performances  
Feb. 17-19 Dixie Theatre, Apalachicola.  Gabriel Russo channels Frank Sinatra with style and snap. A spot-on performance. Performances Friday and Saturday 8 p.m. Sunday performance at 3 pm.
 
Carla Conners, Soprano and Timothy Hoekman, Piano Feb 19 Trinity Church, Apalachicola. Begins at 4 PM, open reception in Benedict Hall following the concert, door donation $5 Part of the Ilse Newell Concert Series.
 
My Nobel Destiny Feb. 22-26 Dixie Theatre, Apalachicola. Written & performed by Beth Blair, this inspirational look at the life of Nobel Prize recipient Marie Curie takes us on the journey of her fascinating life, love and scientific achievements.

On St. George Island, you can get a free night's stay and free admission to the Cape St. George Lighthouse and state park from Collins Vacation Rentals. You can also save up to $200 off the weekly rate on select properties. The St. George Island Inn is offering a free night's stay with a minimum reservation until the end of February.

Apalachicola
In Apalachicola, the Gibson Inn and Apalachicola River Inn are featuring February specials. In addition, the Water Street Hotel will feature a month-long Valentines' package complete with chocolate and champagne. You can also enjoy a Theatre Package which includes tickets to see a unique one woman play - My Nobel Destiny - at the Historic Dixie Theatre Feb. 22-24. The Coombs House Inn is featuring a mid-week Queen for a Day Special and a President's Day Special.
