Make sure to apply for your homestead exemption before March the 1st

If you are a homeowner in Franklin County – you are running out of time to apply for your homestead exemption.

The cut-off date to apply is March the 1st.

You can apply for a homestead exemption of up to 50 thousand dollars on your primary residence.

Some senior citizens can also qualify for an additional 50 thousand dollar exemption if they are 65 years old or over and already qualify for a homestead exemption and have an adjusted gross income of less than 25,780 dollars.

You can apply at the Property Appraisers Office at the Franklin county courthouse in Apalachicola or on Thursdays at the Courthouse Annex on Highway 98 in Carrabelle.

If this year will be your first time applying for a homestead exemption you will need your social security number and proof of home ownership.

For more information about applying for homestead exemption stop by the Franklin county Property Appraisers office or call Rhonda Skipper, Chief Deputy, at 653-9236.
