 SGI Charity Chili Cookoff March 3
More than 60 contestants square off at the St. George Island Charity Chili Cook-offon St. George Island March 3-4. The winner of what is the largest regional chili cook-off in the nation advances to the world championship and all proceeds benefit the Island Volunteer Fire Department and First Responder Unit. Activities include a golf tournament, 5K Red Pepper Run, Chili Cook-off, Auction and the naming of Miss Chili Pepper and Mr. Hot Sauce. Click here to learn more.

Eastpoint VFD Hosts Rib Cook-off March 16-17
Come eat some of the area’s best BBQ ribs and chicken and support the Eastpoint Volunteer Fire Department during the Eastpoint Fire Department's 11th Annual Charity Rib Cook-off March 16-17. Live music, car show, activities for the kids. Click here for details.

St. Vincent Island Hosts Open House March 30
The St. Vincent Island National Wildlife Refuge will host itsAnnual Open House on Saturday March 30 with wildlife exhibits, nature walks, presentations and tours. Come and spend the day on beautiful St Vincent Island and enjoy the tours and program offered at the Open House.  The event is sponsored by the Supporters of St. Vincent NWR, Inc. Spring Break!
You don't have to be in college to appreciate Spring Break. Franklin County features Spring Break options that offer relaxation without the crowds. March is one of the best months to camp at the St. George Island State Park, hike in the Tate's Hell National Forest, fish, kayak or visit one of the many festivals that dot the calendar this month.

Apalachicola Maritime Museum Hosts TalksThe Apalachicola Maritime Museum (AMM) in Apalachicola is hosting two lecture events this month.  

March 10: Archaeologist Franklin Price will give apresentation on the Flintlock site on the Apalachicola River.The Flintlock site is believed to contain a variety of artifacts spanning centuries. 
 
March 17: Author and kayak enthusiast Doug Alderson will give a talk abut paddling opportunities in the region as well as a look at endangered wildlife in the area.
 
Both lectures will be held at 7 p.m. at AMM's facility in Historic Apalachicola.


Camp Gordon Johnston Days March 8-10
Carrabelle pays tribute to America’s veterans this month when the Camp Gordon Johnston Association hosts its annual Camp Gordon Johnston Days March 8-10, 2012. The event will feature a parade, dinner dance and tours. This year's event will also feature a special art exhibit.  Click here for details. 

Apalachicola Art Walk & Wine Fest March 24
Artists will be showing, selling and demonstrating their talents at the Apalachicola Artwalk on March 24 from 11-6 pm. A progressive wine tasting at select restaurants is scheduled from 3-6 pm. Many area chefs will prepare special local fare to compliment the wine tasting event.  Click herefor more information.

Area Lighthouses Offer Full Moon Climbs 
Both the St. George Lighthouse and Crooked River Lighthouse will host special climbs during full moon evenings in March.
 
St. George Island. Visitors will be able to enjoy the sunset and moonrise from the top of the Cape St. George Lighthouse on March 8 from 5-6:30 pm. A lighthouse guide will be onsite as visitors climb the 92 stairs to the top to see breathtaking views of the Gulf of Mexico, Apalachicola Bay, and St. George Sound. A climbing charge of $15 per person includes snacks.
 
Carrabelle Beach. On March 9, the Carrabelle Lighthouse Association will host amoonlight tower tour of the Crooked River Lighthouse. Climb tickets are $10, which includes beverage and a pastry.  There will also be a free movie at the Lighthouse, "The Secret of Roan Inish." Bring your lawn chair to enjoy a free movie starting at dusk.  Weather permitting.
