FWC
DIVISION OF LAW ENFORCEMENT
WEEKLY REPORT
February 24 – March 1, 2012
This report represents some events the FWC handled over the past week; however,
it does not include all actions taken by the Division of Law Enforcement.
NORTHWEST REGION
ESCAMBIA COUNTY
During patrol, Officer Ben Pineda observed a vehicle backed in at the end of Bayou Boulevard, a fishing area also known for drug activities. Officer Pineda observed the vehicle occupants hide something when he approached. The occupants admitted they became scared when they saw the officer and hid their marijuana pipes. A subsequent search revealed a small bag of marijuana, two pipes, and four morphine sulfate pills (a Schedule Two drug). The subject in possession of the Schedule Two drug was arrested on the felony charge and booked into Escambia County Jail. All of the occupants were charged with possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
BAY COUNTY
Officer Mike Nobles inspected and cited a vessel operator in possession of four speckled trout, all of which were undersized.
Officer Jim Moore worked with Department of Environmental Protection Park Patrol Officers at the St. Andrews State Park jetties targeting redfish violations. Several size and bag limit cases were made this week on subjects who were hiding oversized redfish in the rocks.
LEON COUNTY
Lt. Albert Wass de Czege’s squad coordinated a cleanup of the area surrounding Lake Iamonia’s boat landing. The detail was led by Officer Charles Higman. FWC Division of Fisheries, Leon County Parks and Recreation, local duck hunters, and several Florida State University students offered assistance. Over 1,000 pounds of debris was removed from the exposed portion of the lake bed. The majority of the litter was glass and plastic drink bottles, aluminum cans, and worm containers; some discarded furniture was also collected. This detail is a portion of the on-going efforts to gain compliance with area litter laws.
WASHINGTON COUNTY
Officer Warren Walsingham assisted the Washington County Sheriff's Office regarding an armed suspect who fled from a joint agency raid in the New Hope area and was seen on the bank of the Choctawhatchee River. Officer Walsingham and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents took the subject into custody with assistance from an air unit which tracked the suspect with infrared equipment. The suspect was unarmed and taken into custody without incident.
