Franklin county begins data collection for 911 system upgrade

Franklin County is in the beginning stages of updating its Enhanced 9-1-1 system and for a couple of months this summer you might see some trucks driving slowly down local roads working on the project.

Part of moving to the enhanced 911 system is making sure that the physical locations for all residences and businesses in the county are matched with their current address.

The county has entered into a contract with a company called GeoComm, Inc of Saint Cloud, Minnesota to go around the county collecting data of roads, driveway, and structure locations of residences, businesses and other locations.

So this month and next, representatives from GeoComm will be driving all the roads in Franklin County

You should recognize them by their silver Hyundai Santa Fe’s which will be clearly marked with GeoComm and 9-1-1 logos on each side of the vehicle.

If you don’t have your address clearly marked on the road, a GeoComm workers might have to come on your property to talk with you.

If you’re not home at the time they will leave an information packet including instructions to fill out an on-line survey.

If you have any questions or concerns about the advanced 911 project you can call Franklin County 9-1-1 Director Renee Brannan at 670-8300.
