Franklin County Commission meets Tuesday morning

Franklin County commissioners will interview candidates for head of the county solid waste department when they meet tomorrow in Apalachicola.

The board is looking for a replacement for long time director Van Johnson who retired at the end of May.

Currently Assistant Director Fonda Davis is serving as interim director until the commission completes its interviews.

The commission will also hold a public hearing on Tuesday to adopt new wind speed maps that are now in Florida’s building code.

This year the state changed the maps so they are no longer solely based on the distance a building is from the coast but now also take into account the type of structure being built.

Also on Tuesday’s agenda is a presentation by the property appraiser’s office and an update from Weems memorial Hospital.

County commission meetings are open to the public so feel free to come out – the meeting begins at 9 at the Franklin County courthouse Annex in Apalachicola.
