Relief efforts continue to pour into portions of Florida as Red Cross volunteers blanket communities affected by severe weather and flooding caused by Tropical Storm Debby. With some areas now measuring rainfall in feet, creating potentially deadly flood waters, Red Cross shelters are continuing to offer comfort and safety as more and more neighborhoods become impacted.
Currently, the Red Cross is operating 9 shelters in the North Florida Region alone, welcoming neighbors who have evacuated their homes. Shelter volunteers are serving meals, providing blankets and comfort, health and mental health services to all who find themselves in need, while other teams of volunteers assist emergency management partners with damage assessments and other response activities. Red Cross Emergency Response Vehicles are already on the move to provide water, snacks, and clean-up and comfort kits to your friends and neighbors across the state.
Currently the focus of Red Cross volunteers is to provide families with a safe place to stay and to help residents manage the stress and fear that accompanies all disasters.
The full impact of this storm will continue to unfold over the next couple of weeks. You can be the heart and hands of the Red Cross by helping provide shelter, food, comfort and hope to those in need.

- 12 shelters are currently open in Florida, and 17 have been opened to date.
- Disaster Assessment teams are going into neighborhoods to determine the extent of the needs of those affected.
