The public beach on St. George Island was ranked as one of the cleanest in Florida and Florida beaches ranked 5th in the nation when it comes to beach
water quality.
The National report called testing the waters was released last week by the National Resources Defense Council.
The National report called testing the waters was released last week by the National Resources Defense Council.
The St. George Island got 4 out of 5 stars in
the report for having good water quality more than 95 percent of the time in 2009, 2010,
and 2011.
The beach is
tested twice a month for bacteria in the water, if the bacteria levels are too
high, advisories are posted on-line and at the beach itself.
The beach
might have gotten 5 starts except that it is no longer tested weekly because of
state cuts in the budget for water quality testing.
You can see
the full “testing the Water” beach report for yourself.
Its posted
on-line at the National Resources Defense Council website at nrdc.org.
