The City of Apalachicola and the Capitol Area Community Action Agency will hold a “Weatherization Day” event on October 30th.
The program is designed to raise awareness of the
benefits of the program, which since 1976 has helped upgrade more than 7 million
homes nationwide.
The Weatherization
Assistance Program enables low-income families to permanently reduce their
energy bills by making their homes more energy efficient.
This program can pay
for weather stripping, caulking your doors and windows, or putting
insulation in your attic or floor. It can even be used to tune- up your air
conditioner.
Weatherized
homes save an average
of $400 a year on utility bills, decreasing the amount of personal income spent
on home energy, which in turn reduces cases of homelessness, lowers the demand
for public assistance, and keeps more money in local communities.
It also has the benefits of increasing property
values, reducing the likelihood of fires, and reducing pollution.
If you would like to learn more about the program,
then come out Tuesday from 11 to 2 to the Apalachicola Housing Authority, 141 15th Street .
There will be weatherization demonstrations on site
and lunch will even be provided.
You can also get more information about the
Weatherization Assistance Program by calling the Capital Area Community Action
Agency at 653-8057.
