Matthew and Juliann Krogh are professional living historians from Richmond, Virginia.  They have studied American history and have played various historical figures including Jefferson and Varina Davis.  They have been reenacting for over ten years and have covered the Colonial period, the War of 1812, and the Civil War.  Matthew has a B.A. and M.A. in history from Virginia Tech while Juliann has a B.A. in political science (history minor) and an M.P.A. in Public Administration from Virginia Tech.  Matthew has worked at several museums and specializes in maritime and military history.  Juliann currently works for the Department of Defense as a contract buyer and specializes in period clothing and food.  Throughout 2012 they have been volunteering as part of the Historic Ships' Company, which portrays the lives of sailors in the early nineteenth century and informs the American people about the Coast Guard's mission in the War of 1812.

The U.S. Coast Guard Historic Ships' Company is an Auxiliary unit created to honor and portray the mission of the Coast Guard (Revenue Cutter Service) during the bicentennial of the War of 1812.  The living history program includes uniformed sailors who describe the shipboard life of men in the Revenue Cutter Service.  The group actively demonstrates food preparation and preservation, navigation and depth finding, the arts of the sailor, weapons use and manual of arms, surgery and medicine, sailors' games and diversions, and shipboard commands and phrases.  In addition, the HSC covers the active duty of the Revenue Cutter Service during the War of 1812 by highlighting the many actions and events that took place along America's coastal waters.
