FWC DIVISION OF LAW ENFORCEMENT WEEKLY REPORT November 2 – 8, 2012

FWC DIVISION OF LAW ENFORCEMENT
WEEKLY REPORT
November 2 – 8, 2012

This report represents some events the FWC handled over the past week; however,
it does not include all actions taken by the Division of Law Enforcement.

NORTHWEST REGION

OKALOOSA COUNTY

Officer Alan Kirchinger responded to a call from a landowner who reported that two men were trespassing on his property. The two subjects shot a doe on the property from the road, left the area, and returned later to retrieve the deer. The landowner made contact with the subjects and detained them until Officer Kirchinger arrived. When Officer Kirchinger arrived, he read Miranda to both subjects, and they agreed to talk. The individuals admitted to shooting the deer and leaving, then returning to the scene and hiding the gun along the roadway. The rifle was seized and both subjects were cited for shooting from the right-of-way and taking a deer by illegal method of using a rifle during archery season. The deer was donated to an approved charity organization.

WALTON COUNTY

After several days of searching, FWC officers assigned to Okaloosa and Walton counties located and recovered the 41‑year‑old male victim of a capsized vessel. The incident occurred during the early morning hours on October 29. Investigator Ryan Nelson is working the case.

BAY COUNTY

Officer Michael Goodwin completed an investigation involving the theft of two personal watercrafts taken from St. Andrews State Park in June. Several weeks later, Officer Goodwin began investigating another personal watercraft theft at the park. After four months of investigation, he obtained sworn statements from several suspects. Arrest warrants were issued to five suspects. Two of the suspects were taken into custody. A third suspect was already incarcerated at the Bay County Jail on unrelated charges. The last two suspects were juveniles. Officer Goodwin contacted the parents of both juveniles and allowed them to bring the juveniles to the detention center where their warrants were served.

Officers Mike Nobles and Steve Wicker were on water patrol checking a fisherman when they inspected a cooler containing an obviously undersized red snapper fillet. The subject admitted he caught the undersized snapper and another raw fillet. A citation for harvest during the closed season was issued. Written warnings for failure to land snapper in a whole condition and possession of undersized snapper were issued.

Officer Jim Moore worked information concerning the night harvesting of oysters in North Bay. His efforts resulted in the arrest of two commercial oystermen for harvesting oysters before sunrise and failure to cull their oysters.
