The Florida Department of Law Enforcement released its semi-annual crime report which shows the numbers and types of major crimes committed between January and June.

There were 189 major crimes reported in Franklin County in the first 6 months of this year – that’s up from 169 over the same time period last year.

The increase came primarily from an increase in the number of aggravated assaults.

There were 60 aggravated assaults in Franklin County during the first 6 months of 2012, up from 42 in the first 6 months of 2011.

There were 9 forcible rapes, up from 7 the year before, and 43 burglaries, up from 41.

There was also a slight increase in the number of motor vehicle thefts from 6 to 9.

The number of larcenies fell from 73 to 68.

The good news is that there were no robberies or murders in Franklin County in 2011 or the first half of 2012.

Local law enforcement did have a slightly lower percentage of cases cleared.

According to FDLE – 40.2 percent of cases in Franklin County during the first six months of this year are considered cleared – that’s down slightly from 44.4 percent over the same time last year.
