Army Corps of Engineers extends comment period for ACF Master Water Control Manual

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is extending the public comment period on its updated master water control manual for the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint River Basin.
The deadline has been moved from December the 12th to January the 14th.
The public comment period was reopened in October in response to an appeals court ruling in 2011 that allows Lake Lanier to be used for drinking water for the City of Atlanta.

It’s a decision that will have a major impact on the Apalachicola River and Bay by depriving the bay of water it needs for its marine life and seafood industry.
Before the change occurs, the Corps has to update its water control manuals and perform an environmental analysis of the impacts of taking more water from the ACF system.
Because of the importance of the decision to the Apalachicola Bay, all residents are being asked to comment on the proposed changes and to detail any impacts they feel the changes will have to the area and the fishing industry.
Comments can be submitted online through January 14th.
