Franklin County Commission to seek bids for county attorney

County commissioners have decided to seek proposals from attorneys who might want to represent the board.

The commission last week voted to seek proposals from attorneys who might want to serve as county attorney.

The county attorney is Michael Shuler; he has represented the board since January of 2003.

He was hired after his father retired from the job.

The Shuler firm has been representing the county for nearly 60 years.

Michael Shuler works under contract; he is paid 80 dollars an hour for his work.

Last Tuesday the county decided to see if any other firms might want to apply for job and commissioner Pinki Jackel said she feels the county might want to look at the attorney’s contract every two years from here on out.

The board was split on its decision – it was a 3 to 2 vote with commissioners Parrish and Lockley voting against the move.
