Take a hike on New Years Day

If you want to kick off 2013 with some exercise you might want to hike across one of Florida’s state parks.

The Florida Park Service will sponsor free, guided hikes in many of Florida’s state parks on New Year’s Day as part of America's State Parks First Day Hikes initiative in all 50 states.
There will be hikes and numerous parks in Northwest Florida; the closest to us will be at the St. Joseph Peninsula State park at Cape San Blas.
It will be a 1 mile hike along the Bay View Nature Trail.
Participants will learn about the coastal plants, animals and ecosystems of St. Joseph Peninsula.
There will also be hikes at St. Andrews State Park in Panama City Beach and at the Florida Caverns State Park in Marianna.
You can get more information about specific hikes on-line at floridastateparks.org.

If you do decide to take part, you should bring you own water, insect repellant, sun screen and appropriate shoes and clothing.
