Saturday accident on Apalachicola Bridge leads to minor injuries

An accident on the Apalachicola Bridge Saturday night held up traffic for nearly an hour.

Luckily there were only minor injuries from the crash.

The crash happened around 7 PM about 2 and half miles east of Apalachicola.

The Highway Patrol said the accident happened when a truck driven by Larry McCourt of Liberty County was hit by a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission truck driven by Danielle McKinley of Franklin County.

Mister McCourt’s truck was parked in the westbound land of the bridge with no lights on.

Miss McKinley was also headed west and when she saw the truck in her lane she swerved to try to avoid a collision but was unable to avoid the accident.

Her truck collided with the rear of Mister McCourt’s truck.

The Highway Patrol is investigating why the first truck was parked on the bridge with its lights off and said charges for the crash are pending.
