Air Force to hold public meeting in Apalachicola on Thursday

The Air Force will hold a public meeting in Apalachicola Thursday to get public input on a plan to establish training sites in the Tate’s hell state forest in Franklin County.

The plan includes creating helicopter landing and drop zones, airstrips, and using the area for a number of different landing and air training activities.

The Air Force says they need to use sites in Tate’s Hell and the Blackwater state Forest because restricted areas over Eglin Air Force Base are creating scheduling conflicts with nonhazardous training.
The air force has a Memorandum of Understanding with the state that allows for military training missions in the Tate’s hell State Forest and portions of Blackwater River State Forest.
No live ammunition can be fired on state land under the agreement.
If you would like to learn more about the proposal and comment for or against it, there will be a public meeting Thursday afternoon at the Apalachicola Community Center for anyone seeking more information on the Air Force plans.

That meeting will start at 6 PM.
