Apalachicola to name street after Coach "Pop" Wagoner

The City of Apalachicola has announced that it will rename one of its streets in honor of Coach Pop Wagoner.

Coach Wagoner spent 32 years coaching football, baseball and basketball at Chapman High School and Apalachicola High school.

He garnered 188 football wins in that time, including a state championship in 1969.

He was also named the Florida High school coach of the year and was named to the Florida High School Athletics Association hall of Fame in 1990 and to the University of West Alabama Athletics Hall of Fame in 1984.

The City now plans to honor Coach Wagoner by renaming a section of 14th Street that runs from Avenue E to Avenue L, as Coach Wagoner Boulevard.

This official street name change will take effect in the next three weeks, and the new street signs should also be installed by then.
