The Franklin county
Tourist
development council will hold a public hearing this evening to discuss
increasing the local tourist development tax.
The Franklin
County
Tourist Development Council was created in 2005 to help promote tourism in Franklin
County .
The council oversees and distributes money raised
through a 2 percent local bed tax which is collected from every hotel, motel
and rental house in the county.
The money has been spent on local festivals and events
as well as promoting the county, cleaning beaches and bridges, improving sports
and recreational facilities, and improving landing sites for boaters.
The TDC is now considering the possibility of raising
the tax to four percent.
It is anticipated that this increase would generate an
additional $800,000 a year.
The Franklin County
TDC
will be discussing this possible increase at a public hearing today at 6 at the
Apalachicola
Community Center
at Battery Park.
The public is invited to attend and provide their
input into the proposal.
