The Franklin county
commission will have a few important issues to consider when it meets Tuesday
in Apalachicola.
The board will be asked to consider a move
to double the local bed tax from 2 percent to 4 percent.
The bed tax is paid by hotels, RV parks
and rental homes in the county and funds the local tourist development council.
The money has been
spent on local festivals and events as well as promoting the county, cleaning
beaches and bridges, improving sports and recreational facilities, and improving
landing sites for boaters.
It is anticipated
that the increase would generate an additional $800,000 a year.
County
Commissioners will also meet with Cal Knickerbocker from the department of
Agriculture to discuss oyster farming in the Apalachicola Bay.
The Department of
Agriculture has expressed an interest in allowing oyster aquaculture on a
number of sites around the Apalachicola bay, a move the county commission has
opposed.
Also on Tuesday’s
agenda will be an update from Weems memorial Hospital, a bid opening for a
hangar at the Apalachicola airport, and an update from the workforce
development board.

full agenda on-line at oysterradio.com.
The county
commission meetings are open to the public – tomorrow’s meeting begins at 9 at
the Franklin County courthouse Annex in Apalachicola.
