Eastpoint man charged after sideswiping parked school bus and fleeing the scene

An Eastpoint man was arrested Thursday after sideswiping a parked school bus full of kids from the Franklin County School and then leaving the scene.

44 kids were on the bus, but luckily there were no injuries.

The children were later transferred to a second bus and taken home.

Authorities charged 43 year old Joe Morales with a list of violations including failure to drive in a single lane, leaving a crash scene, driving with a suspended license, no proof of insurance, and driving without a tag.

The highway patrol said Mister Morales was heading west on Highway 98 in Eastpoint at about 2:30 Thursday.

He was just west of Jefferson Street when his Cadillac Deville left the roadway and sideswiped a school bus that was parked on the side of the road.

Mister Morales left the scene of the crash, but was later picked up by Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies and returned to the scene.

The highway patrol said he admitted to the accident.

They also found damage on his car consistent with the damage to the school bus.

Mister Morales was booked into the Franklin County jail.
