Law enforcement cracking down on drunk drivers over Halloween

The Florida Highway patrol along with the Franklin County Sheriff’s office will be focused on keeping drunk and otherwise impaired drivers off the roads over Halloween.

Law enforcement groups around the state are participating in the national campaign Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.

The campaign runs from October 31st through November 3rd and is designed to discourage drunk or drugged drivers off the roads.

The campaign uses a combination of targeted enforcement and increased visibility of law enforcement on the roadways.

There were over 17,000 DUI crashes in Florida last year that resulted in 877 deaths and the Highway Patrol says each one of those fatalities was 100% preventable.

If you do plan on drinking over the Halloween weekend, remember to have a designated driver.

If you can’t do that then call a sober friend or family member or use public transportation to get home.

And if you see someone driving that you think is impaired, you can call *FHP from your cellphone to contact the Highway Patrol to report them.
