Big changes being made at IFAS extension office

The University of Florida has made some big changes at the local extension office.
Long-time director Bill Mahan was moved to a position in Bay County last week.
In the short term, Shelley Swenson will be the interim county extension director.
Other extension workers will also provide services in the county until a permanent replacement can be found for Mister Mahan.
Dr. Pete Vergot, who oversees the extension program, said it could take 4 to 6 months to fill the position.
Mister Mahan had filled the job for nearly 20 years and was a point man for the county commission on a number of marine issues, most importantly oysters.
County commissioners agreed to send Mister Mahan a thank you letter expressing their appreciation for his work and wishing him well in his future endeavors.
