The
2013 Atlantic hurricane season is now in the books and thankfully it was a much
less active season than was forecast.
Initial forecasts were that
this would be an active year with between 13 and 20 named storms.
There were 13 named storms, but only
two became hurricanes – and they weren’t major storms.
That’s the fewest hurricanes since
1982 – a normal season gets about 6 hurricanes with three major storms.
The 2013 season will go down as the
sixth least-active year since 1950.
Forecasters said a combination of
factors, but especially drier-than-expected air led to the less active season.
