AMERICA'S STATE PARKS FIRST DAY HIKE AT SGI STATE PARK

Dr.
Julian G. Bruce St. George Island State Park
Date: Wednesday, 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Description:
The Department of Environmental Protection’s St. George Island State Park is participating in America's State Parks First Day Hikes on New Year's Day. Come join us at the East Slough Beach Use Area to start the hike. We will begin on the beach and will talk about sea turtles, ocean processes, dune formations and nesting shorebirds. The hike will continue on to the East Slough Overlook Trail. The beginning of the trail goes through pine flatwoods that are home and refuge for many native and migratory bird and butterfly species. The hike will continue on to the bayside of the island. This is where many species of wading birds, fish and intertidal species are found. There is a low degree of difficulty for this hike. Most of the tour will be on boardwalks and paved surfaces. Those who wish to extend their hike can continue down the East Slough Overlook Trail through the pine flatwoods and salt marshes. Many interpretive signs line this trail. Although most of the trail is a firm and stable surface, there may be patches of soft sand to traverse. Come join us for this family friendly activity.
Fees: The First Day Hike interpretive tour is free with your paid entrance into the park.
Contact: (850) 927-2111
Directions: St. George Island State Park is accessible via a four mile bridge from Eastpoint, Florida. Eastpoint is located approximately 75 miles southwest of Tallahassee, Florida. The park is located on the east end of St. George Island.
