County commissioners recognize Franklin county's top speller

Franklin county commissioners on Tuesday recognized this year’s county spelling bee winner who also happens to be the granddaughter of one of the county commissioners.

Apalachicola bay charter school 8th grader Georjanna Myers was given a resolution of appreciation for her success in the county-wide spelling bee in December.

She will represent Franklin county at the Big Bend regional Spelling Bee in Tallahassee in February for a chance to go to the national spelling bee in Washington DC..

She is the daughter of Belinda Lockley and Henry Meyers of Apalachicola She’s the granddaughter of county commissioner Noah Lockley.

Georjanna wants to be a doctor when she grows up which is only fitting since she won the spelling bee by correctly spelling the word “diagnosis.”

Commissioners called her an exceptional student and a fine young lady,
