Floridians could see a longer
back to school sales tax holiday this year.
Governor Rick Scott is asking
that the holiday be extended to 10 days in his budget
proposal to the Florida Legislature.
For
the past 3 years the sales tax holiday has been cut to three days.
The
Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday is
a popular annual tradition in Florida
that allows people to buy clothes and certain school items including computers
without paying sales tax.
Retailers
say they typically boost staffing by about 20 percent during the tax holiday
weekend to accommodate shoppers.
In
general, retailers say they get an average increase of between 30 and 40
percent in store traffic over the weekend because of the sales tax holiday.
