Outstanding in the Field returns to Florida in January to stage four fabulous outdoor feasts, from Apalachicola in the Florida Panhandle south of Tallahassee to farms near Miami, Orlando and Punta Gorda on the Gulf Coast south of Sarasota. The roving farm-dinner troupe that has inspired pop-up supper clubs across North America and around the world will partner with four local chefs to create feasts that celebrate the hardworking farmers (and fisherfolk who farm the seas) and the region's culinary bounty.
"Each time we come to Florida, we're blown away by the variety of exotic fruits and vegetables that grow in this beautiful climate," says OITF founding chef and artist Jim Denevan. "We always discover something new, and once again we're looking forward to working with some of Florida's most exciting chefs."
Outstanding in the Field's Florida schedule:
Sunday, January 12 ~ 13 Mile Seafood, Apalachicola ~ Guest Chef Joe Truex, Watershed on Peachtree, Atlanta Clean air, fresh water and tasty seafood. We'll set our table at the harbor and listen to the Ward family's fish tales. The Wards have been fishing the Gulf of Mexico for four generations. We'll hear about storms and waves and sun and sea and about the fish that got away. Get ready for whoppers. Guest chef Joe Truex grew up in Louisiana and has a special flair with seafood. ($180 pp)
Wednesday, January 15 ~ Paradise Farms, Homestead (near Miami) ~ Guest Chef Adrianne Calvo, Chef Adrianne's Vineyard Restaurant & Wine Bar, Miami
Tropical places have a special quality, an intangible something in the air. After a heady walk around Paradise Farms, host farmer Gabriele Marewski will guide us to the table where the fruits of her labors will be presented in all their splendor by Chef Adrianne. ($200 pp)
Saturday, January 18 ~ Lake Meadow Naturals, Ocoee (near Orlando) ~ Guest Chef Melissa Kelly, Primo, OrlandoWhen chef loves farmer and farmer loves chef, wonderful things happen. Chef Melissa Kelly and Farmer Dale Volkert share a great connection. We'll see it presented at our table alongside the lake, where all these ingredients will make for a memorable day. ($190 pp)
Sunday, January 19 ~ Worden Farms, Punta Gorda (near Ft. Myers) ~ Guest Chef Steve Iadevaia, River City Grill, Punta Gorda
Worden Farms is an ideal farm dinner site. We'll set our long table in lush fields full of vegetables and fruit ripe and ready for harvest. Host farmers Eva and Chris Worden are warm, articulate and very enthusiastic. They'll give us a tour of their place before we sit down to savor returning Chef Steve Iadevaia's feast. ($180 pp)

Outstanding in the Field stages outdoor dining events across North America and around the world, placing its long signature table at country farms and ranches, in urban gardens and sea caves, on mountaintops and sandy beaches. Wherever it goes, OITF's mission is the same: To re-connect diners to the land and the origins of their food and introduce them to the local farmers and food artisans whose good work brings nourishment to the table. Ingredients for the meal are often sourced within inches of diners' seats. After a tour of the host site, everyone settles in: farmers, ranchers, fishermen, food artisans and guests serving each other at the communal table.
Since 1999, when Denevan did his first farm dinner in his hometown of Santa Cruz, Calif., Outstanding in the Field's culinary caravan has staged more than 500 "table to farm" events, welcoming nearly 60,000 guests for family-style feasts in the U.S. and Canada as well as Europe and South America.
Outstanding in the Field events start with a glass of wine and welcome hors d'oeuvres, followed by a tour of the host farm and a four-course family-style meal paired with wines. Ticket price for the Florida events are all inclusive. Events start at 2pm and end after sunset.
