Please use caution when using space heaters in your home

With temperatures dropping down below freezing again tonight, the Franklin County Emergency Management office along with the United Firefighters of Franklin County, would like to remind you to use caution when using any type of heating source in your home.
Charcoal or other fuel-burning devices that produce carbon monoxide should never be used indoors.
Make sure if you are using a space heater that you don’t leave it unattended and keep it a safe distance from any flammable material.

Watch how many appliances you plug in so you don’t overload your circuits, and most importantly make sure you have smoke alarms and a carbon monoxide detector installed and that all of them are working properly.
