The recreational harvest
of gray triggerfish in Gulf of Mexico
federal waters will close on May the 1st.
NOAA Fisheries has determined the 2014
recreational quota of gray triggerfish has been reached.
There is a recreational annual catch limit
for gray triggerfish of 241,200 pounds whole weight.
Last year the quota was exceeded so this year
the quota was cut to make up for last year’s overfishing.
During the closure, recreational harvest or
possession of gray triggerfish is prohibited.
The
closure applies in both state and federal waters for vessels that have a valid Gulf
of Mexico reef fish charter/headboat permit.
The recreational gray triggerfish fishery
will reopen on January
1st, 2015 .
