County Commissioners open bids for Highway patrol building renovation

Franklin county commissioners are moving forward on a project to convert the old Highway patrol building east of Eastpoint into a visitor center and maritime heritage center.

The county purchased the 1100 foot building and about 4 acres of land around it last year and agreed to spend 100 thousand dollars on renovations.

The work will include making the existing bathroom handicapped accessible and expanding the interior space by utilizing some existing storage space.

On Tuesday the board opened bids from two companies who want to do the renovations.

The bids ranged from 63 thousand dollars to 75 thousand.

The bids will be considered by county staff for a recommendation at the next meeting.
