Franklin County now a "Purple Heart County"

Franklin County has approved a resolution naming Franklin County a purple heart county.

The action was taken to recognize the large number of decorated veterans who live in the county.

The Purple heart is the military’s oldest honor and is presented to soldiers wounded or killed in combat.

The “purple heart county” is part of a national program and county administrator Alan Pierce said the group would provide road signs so that people entering the county are aware of the purple heart county designation.

County Commissioners also agreed to invite local purple heart recipients to a future county commission meeting for some local recognition.
