Commission Meeting
Action: Marine Fisheries items to be discussed June 18
Information: The FWC Commission will discuss several marine fisheries management issues at the June 18 meeting in Fort Myers. At the meeting, the Commission will discuss:
- The creation of a Gulf Reef Fish Data Reporting System;
- Making several changes to how lionfish are managed;
- Removing select local rules that are outdated and redundant (from Gilchrist, Indian River and Manatee counties); and
- Incorporating the requirements for the commercial Restricted Species endorsement, currently found in Florida Statutes, into FWC rules.
There will also be a discussion on innovative approaches to marine fisheries management and streamlining regulationsJune 17.

Red snapper - Gulf, Federal
Action: Season opens June 1 as state season continues on
Information: The federal Gulf recreational red snapper season opens June 1, and remains open through June 9, closing June 10. The state season in the Gulf (shore to 9 nautical miles) opened May 24 and will remain open throughJuly 14, closing July 15.
The daily bag limit is 2 fish per person and the minimum size limit is 16 inches total length. Circle hooks and dehooking tools are required.
These regulations apply in both state and federal waters.

Lionfish
Action: Download new data reporting app today
Information: See or catch a lionfish? Report it to the FWC via the Report Florida Lionfish app. Download the app to your smart device via the App Store or Google Play. You can also submit your data via the MyFWC.com website.
The first 250 people who successfully use the app to report their lionfish data will receive an interactive Lionfish Control Team T-shirt. The logo on the back comes to life.

Gray Triggerfish – Gulf
Action: State season closes June 1
Information: The recreational gray triggerfish season closesJune 1 in Gulf state waters (shore to 9 nautical miles). The season will reopen Aug. 1.
The federal recreational gray triggerfish season closed May 1 and will remain closed through Dec. 31.

Greater Amberjack – Gulf
Action: Season closes June 1
Information: The recreational greater amberjack season closes June 1 in Gulf state waters (shore to 9 nautical miles) and Gulf federal waters. The season will reopen Aug. 1.

Snook – Atlantic
Action: Season closes June 1
Information: Snook closes to harvest June 1 in Atlantic state and federal waters. The season will reopen Sept. 1. The season is also closed in Gulf waters through Aug. 31, opening Sept. 1.

Sea Cucumber
Action: Changes effective June 11
Information: A commercial daily trip and vessel limit of 200 sea cucumbers will go into effect June 11 in state and federal waters off Florida. A Saltwater Products License (Florida’s commercial saltwater fishing license) with a Restricted Species Endorsement and a Marine Life Endorsement is required for all commercial harvest of sea cucumbers.
