Local 3rd graders see some gains in FCAT reading and math scores

The Florida Department of Education released 3rd grade FCAT results in math and reading and overall local students saw some gains in their test scores.

49 percent of local third graders scored at or above grade level in reading, that’s a slight increase from 46 percent last year but still below the statewide average of 57 percent.

50 percent of local 3rd graders scored high enough in math – that’s up from 40 percent last year.

The statewide average was 58 percent.

The biggest gains this year came from the Franklin county school, where 47 percent of third graders were at grade level or above in reading, up from 33 percent last year.

47 percent of Franklin County school 3rd graders also scored at grade level or better in math, up from only 29 percent the year before.

3rd grade Reading and math scores at the Apalachicola Bay Charter school fell this year.

Last year 74 percent of ABC school 3rd graders were reading at or above grade level, this year is 53 percent.

3rd graders scoring at grade level or better in math fell from 63 percent to 54 percent.
