Sambar deer hunting permit process begins Sunday

Hunters can begin to apply for Sambar deer hunt permits on St. Vincent Island beginning June the 1st.
These reddish-brown deer, which are actually in the elk family, are native to Southeast Asia and were introduced on the island in 1908.
They can measure 6 feet tall at the shoulder and weigh more than 700 pounds.
Hunting will be allowed between December the 4th and 6th.
Only 200 permits will be issued.
The first phase of the permit process is from June 1st through June 31st.
The cost is 5 dollar to apply – the permit costs 25 dollars.
You can apply at any license agent, at the tax collectors office or on-line at license.myfwc.com.

The FWC issues the permits during phase 1 by a random drawing.
