Hunters can begin to apply for Sambar deer
hunt permits on St. Vincent
Island
beginning June the 1st.
These
reddish-brown deer, which are actually in the elk family, are native to Southeast
Asia and were introduced on the island in
1908.
They
can measure 6 feet tall at the shoulder and weigh more than 700 pounds.
Hunting
will be allowed between December the 4th and 6th.
Only
200 permits will be issued.
The
first phase of the permit process is from June 1st through June 31st.
The
cost is 5 dollar to apply – the permit costs 25 dollars.
You
can apply at any license agent, at the tax collectors office or on-line at license.myfwc.com.
The
FWC
issues the permits during phase 1 by a random drawing.
