Two more fish populations rebuilt in 2013

Two US fish populations were rebuilt to healthy levels in 2013 according to a report to Congress out this week from NOAA Fisheries.

NOAA's Status of U.S. Fisheries report says that Southern Atlantic Coast black sea bass and Sacramento River fall Chinook salmon populations have been fully rebuilt to healthy levels.

That makes 34 rebuilt U.S. marine fish populations over the last 13 years.

NOAA Fisheries also reported other positive news in that 91 percent of the US fish populations examined for fishing activity were not being fished at too high a level, compared to 90 percent in 2012.

Currently 28 species are on the list of fish being overfished, and 40 species are already considered overfished.
