Apalach Waters
Welcome Daniel and Rosemary Bolinger, new owners of theApalach Waters. The Bolingers purchased Gerry Garlick's shop on the corner of Avenue E and Market Street. They sell antiques including furniture, ceramics and household decorative pieces. They also sell natural sea sponges, soaps, jewelry, fine corals, shells, plus, prehistoric artifacts like geoids and ammonites. The Bolingers are from New Orleans. They purchased a home on St George Island 3 years ago and relocated to the island full time last year. Daniel worked as a civil engineer. He and Rosemary had been looking for a new business to start. Brook Hale is working with them in the shop. Apalach Waters is open Monday-Saturday from 10:00 am-6:00 pm and Sunday by appointment. Stop by and say welcome next time you are downtown. Tom's Painting and Home Repair
Tom Pieper joined the chamber with his business Tom's Painting and Home Repair. Tom and his wife Audie moved to Apalachicola in May of this year from the Florida Keys. Tom is an experienced contractor that focuses on all type of home repairs and small commercial jobs. He is licensed and insured and has been a contractor for 38 years. Apalachicola Charters
Welcome Rudy Gay to the chamber with his business Apalachicola Charters. Rudy has a 15 foot airboat and a 24 foot Kenner tunnel hull. He offers fishing and eco-tours on Apalachicola Bay and the Apalachicola River. Rudy was born and raised in Apalachicola. He also offers bow fishing trips and night trips. Artists of Apalachicola Association
Welcome the newly re-formed Artists of Apalachicola Association (AAA) to the chamber. Open to all visual, musical and performing artists, AAA was originally founded in 2007, with artists from the Alice Jean Studio and Lynn Wilson workshops to serve as an organization that would sponsor and promote local artists, classes, and scholarships for the community. AAA became reactivated in 2014, to include not only the original visual arts of traditional painting, pastel and watercolor, but also sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, fiber arts, as well as performing arts of music, voice, poetry, acting and dance. The mission of AAA is to support our community as a destination for local cultural and artistic excellence for our children, residents, and visitors to be enriched and enlightened, and to strengthen our community's economy through our events. An artist of Apalachicola is a non-profit organization utilizing donated funds and grants obtained to create and strengthen our activities of enriching our community through the arts and our artists. Welcome Dr. Rex A. Whiteman, DDS. Dr. Whiteman purchased Dr. Padgett's dental practice in January 2013. The office offers dental cleanings, fillings, crowns, implants, oral surgery, root canals, veneers, extractions and TMJ and headache therapy via Botox, b-12 injections and derma fillers. Dr. Whiteman has been coming to the area for 30 years. Dr. Padgett is still working at the practice Mondays and Tuesday. Dr. Rex A. -Eric Powell with Yachtingmagazine was sent information and photos of the area for an article on cruising "The Great Loop". They cruised through Apalachicola and loved it. The article will appear in the ?? issue and in an online companion piece.
-The June issue of Outside magazine lists the 10 Best Road Trips in the US. The road trip from New Orleans ends with Apalachicola and St George Island!! The Associate editor was here in early April and fished with the Jr Holland with the Robinson Brothers.
-Nuts & Bolts of Fishing a fishing TV series, brought 100+ people from across the southeast to Apalachicola for a four day three-night Father's Day weekend to fish in a tournament. The chamber was successful in attracting them to hold the tournament in Apalachicola. Nuts & Bolts is fishing series with host Cefus McRae. They are seen in over 70 million households from Maryland to Arkansas to Texas to the Florida Keys and reach over 10,000 opt-in subscribers to their e-newsletter, plus Facebook and their online TV series. From their trip they will produce several segments for the TV series in which the area will appear. Cefus calculated the group spent more than $32,000 while they were in town.

-Charlene Pinckney photo editor for Parent & Child Magazine/Scholastic
was sent information and photos for an article to appear the Parent & Child magazine. The story will run in the August Parent & Child website and will recommend several places that are great for family travel. Apalachicola Bay will be one of the suggested destinations.

Paddle Out on July 3
Thursday, July 3rd, kickoff the Independence Day Celebration at Riverfront Park with a patriotic paddle event onThursday, July 3 from 9 a.m. to noon. Join the Forgotten Coast Paddle Club as they paddle down the Apalachicola River in a three mile easy paddle. Interested paddlers will meet at the Apalachicola Maritime Museum and be shuttled upriver where they will launch and paddle down to Riverfront Park to join the celebration beginning at the park at noon. Need a kayak? Apalachicola Maritime Museum (653-2500) or Journeys of St. George Island (927-3259) will provide a kayak, paddle and personal flotation device for $20. Plan for a two to three-hour trip depending on your paddling level. Bring sunscreen, water and snack.
Independence Day
Thursday, July 3rd, is the annual an old fashion Independence Day celebration starting atnoon. There will be music, a low country boil, and a silent auction. At 6:30 pm meet at Lafayette Park for the Red, White & Blue Parade to downtown followed by an ice cream social at Riverfront Park at 7:00 pm. Food and beverages will be available for purchase all day and evening and music will continue throughout the evening. At approximately9:00pm there will be a fireworks display over the Apalachicola River.
Friday, July 4th, decorate your golf cart or float and join in a fun filled parade on St George Island! Anyone in costume or on a float or in a decorated vehicle can participate in the parade. Bring your squirt guns and plan to get wet! Line up at the intersection of 1st Street W and W. Pine starting at 10:00 am. Parade begins at 11:00. And there will be fireworks on the beach at the Blue Parrot after dark.
A Short History of St Teresa
Perhaps North Florida's first "seaside resort", St. Teresa has been enjoyed by generations of North Florida and South Georgia families. Much of its early history has been lost or is available only through family records, some dating back six generations. Ed's presentation utilizes maps, letters, newspaper articles, photographs, local histories, deeds and other legal documents to trace the origin and development of this special community. The lecture will be on July 10, 7:00 pm at the FSUCML Auditorium on US 98 east of St James.
Full Moon Climb
The Cape St. George Lighthouse will have a Full Moon Climb onJuly 12th. The sunset/full moon climb happens from 8:00 p.m. -9:30 p.m. and will include light hors d'oeuvres and a sparkling cider toast to the full moon. The cost is $15.00 for the general public and $10.00 for members of the St. George Lighthouse Association. After sunset, climbers can view the full moon from the top of the lighthouse at the cost of $5 for members and $10 for non-members. Space is limited. Reservations are recommended (850) 927-7744
