Franklin County unemployment up in May

Franklin County’s unemployment rose slightly in May.
Local unemployment increased from 5.3 percent to 5.6 percent, ending three months of falling unemployment figures
300 people were looking for work in Franklin County in May, up from 283 the month before while the workforce increased by 45 people.
Twenty-one counties had lower unemployment rates than Franklin County last month.
Gulf County unemployment also rose from 5.7 percent to 6 percent.
377 people were looking for work in Gulf County last month, up from 353 the month before.
In Wakulla County the unemployment numbers rose from 4.6 to 4.8 percent.
Liberty County unemployment rose from 4.7 to 5.3 percent.
Overall, the statewide seasonally adjusted unemployment rate ticked up to 6.3 percent in May.
