The Franklin County Commission will hold its final public budget hearing today.
The 46.9 million dollar budget received preliminary approval at a budget hearing earlier this month – if it gets final approval today it will go into effect on October the 1st.
The portion of the budget that will be paid by local taxpayers is a little over 10.6 million dollars – that’s about 50 thousand dollars more than last year.
But this year’s budget does not count as a tax increase – the tax rate is basically remaining flat.
For the first time in nearly 7 years the taxable value of property in Franklin County actually rose by just over 1 percent.
During the first budget hearing, county commissioners called it a good budget, because there was no tax increase and the county was able to provide each county employee with a 500 dollar bonus as well as give raises to some workers.
The commission was also able to cover increased costs in retirement contributions and health insurance.
