NWFWMD budget includes 3.8 million dollars for the Apalachicola River and Bay restoration

The Northwest Florida Water Management District adopted its 52 million dollar budget last week which includes nearly 4 million dollars for the protection and restoration of the Apalachicola River and Bay.

The new budget year begins October the 1st.

The District’s budget is funded through a combination of ad valorem revenue, state and federal funding, and other revenues, including timber sales.

The budget includes $3.8 million dollars for the protection and restoration of the Apalachicola River and Bay watershed.

That includes funding a series of stormwater retrofit projects in cooperation with the cities of Apalachicola and Carrabelle to improve water quality in Apalachicola Bay and provide needed flood relief for residents.

The water management district budget also includes over 8 million dollars for springs restoration and protection projects and 15 million dollars for water supply development assistance to local governments.

The Northwest Florida Water Management District manages the water across the 16-county region of the Florida Panhandle.
