Closure of bill payment center has county commission concerned

Franklin County Commissioners have raised concerns about the closing of a local bill payment center.
The commission last week agreed to contact Duke Energy Florida to see what can be done to keep a local location where people can pay their power bills.
Duke Energy, and before then Progress energy, has not had an office in Franklin County in many years, but various businesses have provided a location where people can pay their bills.
The most recent site was Mike’s Qwik Cash in Apalachicola – but it ended that service on the 11th.
Commissioner Smokey Parrish said his biggest concern is that with the current state of the oyster industry many people are paying their bills at the last minute, and without a local office to pay it in, a lot more people fall behind in – and there could be more power service disconnects.
The Commission asked Alan Pierce to write a letter to Duke Energy asking that they address the situation.

Mister Pierce said he would also contact a company representative by phone to see what can be done.
