County to purchase bank for new county annex in Carrabelle

The Courthouse annex in Carrabelle will likely soon be in a new location.
County Commissioners have agreed to move forward on a plan to purchase the Superior Bank Building in Carrabelle.
The building sits on 5 city lots.
The property is appraised at $275,000 but the current owner has offered to sell it to the county for $235 thousand.
The board should be able to purchase the building outright with money from the county’s Capital Outlay fund.
The commission feels this will be a good purchase because not only will it be more convenient for residents but it will provide better security for county workers and it has a vault which the tax collectors office needs.
County administrative director Alan Pierce said the cost of moving to the new building will be minimal as the state will likely move some of the tax collectors required computer lines at no cost and the existing configuration of the building will work without any major modifications.
Commission Cheryl Sanders said she hopes that some of the additional property can be used to provide more services to the county including a mobile drivers license office.
