Franklin
County has decided to step up the work to turn a lot in Eastpoint into a
parking lot for the Eastpoint Boat Ramp.
The
property is about a half acre across the street from the Eastpoint pavilion –
the county bought the land last year.
It
has 124 feet fronting Highway 98 and about 142 feet fronting Patton drive.
County
director Alan Pierce said a number of trees need to be removed so the parking
spaces will fit trucks and trailers, but the county should be able to do the
work.
Mister
Pierce said there also needs to be a culvert installed and more than likely a
part of the lot will have to be fenced.
Commissioner
Noah Lockley said the work needs to be done soon because a lot of people are
parking along the roadside at the ramp, and that’s not a safe situation.
