Local state parks draw hundreds of thousands of visitors to the area

State parks across Florida saw nearly 1.5 million more visitors last year than the year before.

The Florida Park Service said more than 27 million people visited Florida’s 160 state parks during the last fiscal year.

The Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail welcomed more visitors than any other state park with nearly 1.5 million visitors.

Honeymoon Island State Park in Dunedin came in second with over 1.1 million visitors.

St. Andrews State Park in Panama City Beach was the most popular park in north Florida with more than 870,000 guests – which is actually about 20 thousand fewer visitors than the year before.

Locally we saw over 225 thousand visitors at the St. George Island State park which was up from about 209 thousand the year before.

Bald Point State Park saw over 47 thousand people, a increase of about 6000 visitors from the year before.

The Orman House Historic State Park in Apalachicola brought in over 7600 people last year, the John Gorrie Museum State Park saw over 2600 guests.

In Gulf County the St. Joe Peninsula State Park saw an increase in their visitor numbers from 228 thousand people to over 242 thousand and the Constitution Convention Museum saw over 1400 people.

The Ochlocknee River State Park in Wakulla County saw over 45 thousand visitors last year a slight decline from the year before.

  

In Total, the state parks in Franklin, Gulf and Wakulla counties saw 797,366 visitors last year.
