Numerous injuries reported in two vehicle accident in Apalachicola

Two Apalachicola men and a number of children were injured Monday night in a two vehicle accident in Apalachicola.
The accident happened at 8 o’clock Monday when a Chevy Silverado driven by Robert Baxley pulled directly in the path of a Nissan Titan driven by Ottice Amison while trying to turn off of Highway 98 on to Bayview Lane.
The Highway patrol said Mister Amison tried to avoid the collision but was unable to.
The two trucks collided on their left fronts.
An eleven year old riding in the rear of Mister Baxley’s truck was thrown from the truck bed and landed on the roadway.
He suffered serious injuries and was taken to Sacred heart Hospital in Port St. Joe.
Mister Baxley and an 8-year-old juvenile inside his truck were also taken to Sacred Heart Hospital in serious condition.
Mister Amison also received serious injuries in the crash, while two children in his truck suffered only minor injuries.
Amison and his passengers were wearing seatbelts.
Mister Baxley wore his seatbelt, but neither of the children in his truck did.
The road was closed for approximately two and a half hours while Highway patrol along with the Franklin county sheriff’s office and the Apalachicola police Department monitored the scene.
Charges are pending the conclusion of the Highway Patrol investigation.
