Red
tide is moving close to our area.
State officials have been
monitoring a patchy bloom of red tide in the northeast Gulf of Mexico for
weeks.
Satellite images issued on Friday
from the Optical Oceanography
Laboratory at the University of South Florida show patches offshore of
Franklin, Wakulla, Taylor, and Citrus counties and alongshore of Taylor, Dixie,
and Levy counties.
Concentrations of the red tide
organism are patchy – and range from barely any of the organism to high
concentrations.
Fish kills have been reported
offshore in the bloom area and alongshore of Dixie and Levy counties.
No respiratory irritation has
been reported alongshore the west coast of Florida; however, respiratory
irritation is possible in the bloom areas.
